Who is The Prosecco Queen?
Melbourne’s annual Prosecco Festival, now in planning for the 3rd year in a row, is the brainchild of Melissa Brauer, a.k.a The Prosecco Queen.
Her mission at The Prosecco Festival is to showcase the depth and breadth of Prosecco styles, from bone-dry Brut Nature and bottle-fermented Col Fondo, to dessert-matching sweeter styles. She seeks to highlight some of her favourite winemakers and importers, from the finest DOCG wines, with grapes hand-picked from the steep slopes of the Veneto hills in North East Italy, to Australia’s first Prosecco from Dal Zotto in the King Valley, and all the delicious drops in between.
Melissa has been extolling the virtues of Prosecco for many years, returning regularly to Italy’s home of Prosecco, in the beautiful Veneto region, as well as spending countless weekends in the King Valley in North East Victoria . She loves it so much there, she and her husband have bought and renovated ‘Whitty Cottage’ in Whitfield, which is walking distance from some their favourite wineries.
Melissa regularly hosts wine dinners and master classes at restaurants and bars around Melbourne and interstate, and her private in-home masterclasses are a huge hit.
She loves nothing better than teaching people about this widely-consumed but also often misunderstood wine, and her greatest delight comes when people try a new Prosecco for the first time and say “Wow, I had no idea Prosecco could taste like that!” She also has an online wine store and blog/Instagram/Facebook page dedicated to Prosecco, and wholesale wine business called Regina Vino. She also created Australia's first mobile Prosecco and Spritz Bar with her vintage caravan, Van Di Vino back at the start of 2017
Melissa’s hope is that by attending the Prosecco Festival you will come away with a new-found understanding of the different styles of the world's favourite sparkling wine, as well as an appreciation for the winemakers and importers who strive to produce these wonderful wines! And now she is thrilled to be able to offer you the opportunity to buy these wines all year round on the Prosecco Festival Online wine store.
